 Special Chemistry Program

Program Title:        Chemistry

Program Type:        Single

Award / Degree:        B.Sc. in Chemistry

Department (s):         Chemistry

Professional Information

Program Mission

Department of chemistry, faculty of science (Girls) Al-Azhar University will train students:

  • To acquire the highest level of professional and scientific standards.
  • To gain a broad and deep knowledge of fundamental chemical principles that can function independently with the confidence to tackle any industrial and environmental
  • To develop the base of chemical knowledge through original research.

 Program Aims

Chemistry is the science which deals with the study of atoms and molecules with a great emphasize on their structures, properties, synthesis, and how they interact with each other to create new molecules. It is a long-standing practical, academic and professional subject, with inter-disciplinary interactions with all important scientific areas.

The aims of the chemistry program are oriented to:

1- Provide the graduates with an in-depth knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, and the ability to acquire new knowledge.

2- Provide the graduates with understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry to integrate knowledge of mathematics, physics and other disciplines to a wide variety of chemical and community problems.

3- Provide the graduates with skills important for research in chemistry, including not only the practical skills required for effective and safe activity in the laboratory environment, but also familiarity with electronic information systems, databases and appropriate computer applications.

4- Provide an excellent preparation for careers in many different areas of chemistry.

5- Help graduates to gain the skills needed for data collection using information technologies to solve problems, interpretation and presentation in English and Arabic.

6- Develop scientific approaches that meet research and community needs.

7- Learn, in addition to scientific courses, beliefs, behaviors, morals through Islamic Studies.

Graduates attributes

In addition to the graduate attributes of basic science, the chemistry graduate must be able to:

  1. Recognize the role of chemistry in the development of society to instill, in students, a sense of enthusiasm for chemistry.
  2. Develop wide background knowledge to the different branches of chemistry, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry.
  3. Develop chemistry curricula that meet community needs in an industrial, academic, economic, environmental, social context and safety requirement.
  4. Utilize chemistry facts and theories to analyze and interpret practical data.
  5. Collect, analyze and present data using appropriate formats and techniques.
  6. Postulate concepts and choose appropriate solutions to solve problems of a chemical nature.
  7. Apply their chemical knowledge and skills to solve theoretical and practical problems in chemistry.
  8. Develop the transferable skills for writing scientific reports either in group or as an individual project work.
  9. Deal with scientific data in both Arabic and English.
  10. Design and conduct experimental work as well as evaluate the outcomes and write a scientific report.
  11. Assess risks and work safely in the laboratory.
  12. Gain experience in computing and information technology.
  13. Contribute self and long life-learning.
  14. Grain in Islamic frame which ties students with Quran and sciences.
