Mathematics and computer Science  program

PROGRAM SPECIFICATION

1. Basic Information

Program Title: Pure Mathematics & Computer Science

Award / Degree: B.Sc. in Pure Mathematics & Computer Science

Department Responsible: Department of Mathematics

Coordinator: Prof.Dr/ Afaf Abou El Fotouh Saleh

2. Professional Information

  1. Program mission:

This Mathematics and computer science program is designed for devoted mathematicians who also want to become skilled in modern day computing. The student will gain the techniques needed to develop a mathematical and statistical knowledge plus he will learn how these can be applied to the formulation and solution of problems. Advanced computing courses which include databases, operating systems and the construction of windows applications in studio.net programs are included in this program. The Mathematics and computer science program gives students a foundation in all branches of mathematics for example algebra, analysis, statistics, geometry, probability and mathematical methods. The computer science element is designed to provide an efficient and well-balanced introduction to the whole practical field, and therefore includes topics in programming and computer systems.

Mathematics and Computer Science have a long history of feeding off of each other. In today’s world the combined use of mathematical techniques and computation techniques strengthens much of today’s society requirements. For example in analyzing large corporate databases to understand consumer behavior or in performing credit scoring one needs advanced statistical and mathematical tools plus advanced computational tools. As another the design of cars, aircraft or the prediction of complex systems such as the weather requires a significant modeling aspect which is now done with computer simulations which encode complex mathematical formulae. Even the realistic presentation of movement in a computer game is made possible by the merging of mathematical models and computer simulation.

  1. Program Aims:

This program provides students with the skills and techniques needed to develop mathematical and statistical techniques. Students will also understand how these techniques can be numerically solved from scientific, technological, business, and other areas of application. The program also help students to enjoy mathematics, statistics computer science.

The program aims to:

  1. Extend student’s comprehension of key mathematical concepts and provide them with an in-depth understanding of specialized areas of mathematics and computer science and their applications.
  2. Understand the significance ability for sustaining learning throughout his/her career, whether in an academic role, or in other employment.
  3. Provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of knowledge and practical and problem solving skills in mathematics, computer science, statistics and computing.
  4. Enhance the development of student’s ability to apply their mathematical and computer knowledge and skills to the solution of problems.
  5. Offer students a flexible educational framework that enables them to specialize or maintain a broad course of study.
  6. Provide the necessary skills and motive for further study or research in Mathematics and computer science.
  7. Develop competence in IT and especially in the use of mathematical software.
  8. Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design, implementation, evaluation and evolution of computer-based systems
  9. Learn in addition to scientific courses, beliefs, behaviors, doctrine, holly Quran, hadith and Tafseer through Islamic studies.
  1. Graduates attributes:
