يقوم القسم على دراسة تأثير الدواء ومصيره فى الجسم وسميته والتفاعلات الجانبية للادويه ودراسة أساسيات علم السموم وتصنيعها والتعرف على تأثيراتها والتحكم السريع لعلاج حالات التسمم وتأثير السموم المختلفة على الكبد وكذلك دراسة أساسيات التقييم الحيوية للادويه ومعايرة التأثيرات السامة للادويه ودراسة أخطار سوء إستعمال الدواء .

يقوم القسم بتدريس مادة علم الأدوية والسموم للفرقة الثالثة وعلم الأدوية ا لإكلينيكي للفرقة الرابعة ومادة السموم البيئية والمعايرات الإحيائية لهدوية والسموم ا لإكلينيكية والصيدلة ا لإكلينيكية للفرقة الخامسة .
