Rules, Regulations and Requirements of Admission the undergraduate international students to study at the faculties of Al-Azhar University

For the academic year 2018/2019

Firstly: International students are admitted to the faculties of Al-Azhar University in the academic year 2018/2019 through the Admission Office at Al-Azhar University, the Administrative Building _ the General Department of Educational Affairs 3^rd floor, Nasr city, Cairo,

In accordance with the following rules:

1. Students who are obtained Al-Azhar secondary certificate in 2018 or its equivalent are allowed to admit the faculties of non- applied sciences as well as the faculties of applied sciences in accordance with the admission requirements and on the basis of the minimum score (fixed and standardized) of the scheduled marks required to accept their similar international students to be admitted to study at the Egyptian governmental universities.
2. Students who are obtained the Islamic Missions Secondary Institute certificate in 2018 and its equivalent are allowed to be admitted to study at the faculties of non- applied sciences in accordance with the admission requirements and on the basis of the minimum score (fixed or standardized) of the scheduled marks required to accept their similar international students to be admitted to the Egyptian governmental universities.
3.  Students who are obtained secondary certificate specialization of “Qra’at” are admitted to study at the faculty of the Glorious Qur’an in Tanta.
4.  Students who are obtained Al-Azhar secondary certificate or its equivalent or Islamic missions secondary certificate or its equivalent are admitted to study at the faculty of the Glorious Qur’an in Tanta, on conditional that the students must pass the admission exam held by the faculty

In the case of student failure or being absent he will be re-allowed to join another faculty through the Admission Office on the basis of student’s graded desires and the minimum score of admission at the same year of obtaining the qualification.

5. Students who are obtained certificates equivalent to transfer academic classes at faculties of Azhar University are nominated for admission in accordance with the resolutions of the Main Committee of Certificate Equivalence at AL-Azhar University.
6. Students who have certificates equivalent to the Egyptian general secondary certificate from abroad, can be admitted to study at he faculties of applied sciences as well as the faculties of non- applied sciences with the exception of faculties of religious sciences, provided that students should meet the following requirements:

(a) Students must have a recent secondary certificate passing only two years “when applying to join university

(b) Students must obtain the minimum score of qualifying subjects and the standardized score according to the minimum score required for students admission at the same year, of obtaining qualification

7. Non speaking Arabic students are not allowed to be admitted to faculties Al-Azhar university before fulfilling the following requirements:

(a) student must obtain secondary certificate from his country, if it is equivalent to Al-Azhar secondary certificate, he will be admitted to the faculties of AL-Azhar university whether faculties of religious sciences or faculties of applied sciences.

(b) if the qualification obtained by the student is not equivalent to Al-Azhar secondary certificate, and he desires to join the faculties of religious sciences (Arabic language _ Islamic Theology _ Islamic call _ Jurisprudence &law _ Islamic and Arabic studies (for boys and girls), he must obtain Al-Azhar secondary certificate by allowing him to study at the institute of Islamic missions . After passing the level determination exam, he would be joined the suitable grade according to his level

8. The applicant must have a recent secondary certificate to be admitted to study at the university, two previous years before the admission year can be permitted for admission to study at the faculties of the university. This period can be extended to three years for non-speaking Arabic students who desire to join the faculties of religious sciences. This is applied on students of the following countries (South Sudan _ Somalia _ Djibouti _ Mauritania _ State of the Comors). The university council is authorized to extend that period up to more one year , but for any more extention , it must be referred to the Supreme Council  of Al-Azhar for issuance the suitable resolution regarding that matter.
9. Students who are obtained certificates equivalent to Al-Azhar secondary certificate or Islamic missions secondary certificate for boys or girls with grade only and without marks, these grades are turned into figures as fallows

Excellent= 90%

Very good=80%

1. Candidate male and female students for admission to study at the faculties of religious sciences (Arabic language _ Islamic theology _ Islamic call _ jurisprudence & law _ Islamic and Arabic studies for boys and girls _ the Holy Qur’an (boys only) are accepted by 50% of the total score (fixed _ standardized) at the same year of obtaining qualification.

2. Admission the Faculty of Education for boys, the Faculty of Education for girls and Department of Kindergarten, is required that students (boys and girls) must pass the admission exam which held by each faculty for Verification their abilities of teaching. If student failed or had been absent in exam, he would be re-allowed to study at another faculty through the Admission Office on the basis of the student’s graded desires and in the range of his/her total score.

3. Requirements of admission to study at the faculty of Islamic call (Da’awa) in Cairo:

(A) Student must obtain secondary certificate with minimum score 50% of total.

(B) Student must pass the interview held by the faculty for verification of his abilities to join and study at that faculty. In the case of student failure in that interview, he will be re-allowed to admit another faculty through the Admission Office on the basis of his graded desires and in the range of his total score.

4. Departments of Islamic studies in foreign Languages at the Faculty of Languages and Translation in Cairo, are dealt similarly with the faculties of religious sciences, are exempted from tuition fees by hard currency.

5. Candidate students at the faculty of Physical Education for boys in Cairo are required to successfully pass the sporting exams as well as the personal and health fitness in addition to special tests for the verification of their abilities to practice teaching profession Exams will be held at the faculty. Student who fails or being absent at that exam, he will be re-allowed to join another faculty through the Admission Office on the basis of his graded desires and the minimum score at the same year of obtaining secondary certificate.

6. (a) Admission to study at the Faculty of Languages and Translation (Departments of European Languages and Simultaneous Interpretation _ Department of English language and its literature) is required at least 70% of total marks of the first foreign language.

(c) Admission to study at the department of Jurisprudence & law (in English language) at the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Law for boys in Cairo, as well as the faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies for girls in Cairo, is required minimum score 70% of total, and at least 80% of total marks of English language, with the exception of the students who are obtained Al-Azhar language secondary certificate as well as students from non-speaking Arabic countries.

• : Extention the period of candidacy of international students for another year to be admitted to study at the faculties of Al-Azhar university whereas some of them can’t be able to come for fulfilling procedures of registration, payments of scheduled tuition fees during the same year. Non-speaking Arabic students, who study at the Center of Teaching Arabic for non-speaking Arabic, are excepted, whereas that period can be extended for other two years after the year of candidacy, whereas the circumstances of study at the Center should be considered .

Fourthly: candidate international students (boys and girls) are distributed to the faculties of Al-Azhar university which are located only in Cairo, with the exception of students who are belonged to Egyptian mothers whose risidences are permanently located in other governorates out the Grand Cairo, as well as the female students who are granted scholarships by Al-Azhar to be allowed to join and study at the faculties in Cairo and Alexandria.

• : Male and Female students who are not granted Egyptian scholarships and allowed to be admitted the faculties of non- religious sciences and similar departments at other faculties, they aren’t be allowed to be registered except after payment the registration fees, insurances and scheduled tuition fees in accordance with the related regulations.
• : the General Department of the International Students at Al-Azhar shall facilitate procedures of certification the qualifications obtained by students, as their certificates are equivalent to AL-Azhar secondary Certificate.  Certificates equivalent to transfer classes of the faculties will be Certified by the Certificate Equivalence Committee at Al-Azhar university.
• the number of the international students who are admitted to study at the faculties of non-religious sciences should not exceed over 10%of the total number of Egyptian students accepted at these faculties in the academic year 2018/2019.

This percentage can be extended after submission the application to the Supreme Council of Al-Azhar.

• Priority of admission will be in accordance with the following order:

1. The registered students who are granted Egyptian scholarships.
2. Students who are holding Al-Azhar secondary certificate or the Islamic missions secondary certificate from A.R.E .
3. Students who are holding certificates equivalent to Al-Azhar secondary certificate or equivalent to the Islamic missions secondary certificate.

Eighthly:  Male and Female international students exhausted by repetition during the two academic years 2016/2017 and 2017/2018, will be re-registered to study at the faculties of religious sciences only (Islamic theology _ jurisprudence and law _ Arabic language _ Islamic and Arabic studies for boys and girls).

Ninthly: exam of level determination at Arabic language will be held for non-speaking Arabic students who are obtained certificate of qualification equivalent to Al-Azhar secondary certificate and equivalent to Islamic missions secondary certificate obtained from non-speaking Arabic countries

 That exam is held before registration of those students at the faculties which they have been nominated to be admitted.

• In the case of student failure at that exam, he will be admitted to study Arabic language for one year at the Center of Teaching Arabic for non-speaking Arabic.
• If student successfully passed the center exams, he/she would be registered at the faculty which he had been nominated, whereas he/she is dealt as a new student.
• : the deadline of applying for admission the international students to study at the faculties of Al-Azhar University is
  1st November 2018.
• They can be accepted after that date provided that they will be registered starting from the following year of admission.
• : International students are obligated to bring health certificates to certify that the student is free from diseases (AIDS _ HIV C) issued from specified hospitals determinated by the university council. Students will bear the costs of the required blood tests.
• If student is infected by one of the two diseases, authorities concerned would be notified to take procedures of student deportation out of the country in accordance with the explainatory memorandum in that regard. This resolution is applied on non-speaking Arabic students who are registered at the Center of Teaching Arabic for non-speaking Arabic language.
