The Grand Imam Begins a Tour to Portugal and Mauritania

  The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and President of the Muslim Council of Elders, Prof. Dr. Ahmed al-Tayyeb began a journey Wednesday morning, March 14, to visit Portugal and Mauritania as H.E will meet senior Officials of the two countries and participate in important events.
During his Eminence visit to Portugal, the Grand Imam will meet the President of the Republic of Portugal, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Grand Imam will deliver a speech in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Islamic Society in Lisbon, Portugal in the presence of the President of Portugal and the Secretary-General of the United Nations. The Catholic University, the largest university in Portugal, will celebrate the visit of Grand Imam, who will deliver a speech during the celebration.

 After Portugal, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar will head to Mauritania to participate in an open panel discussion with the leading religious scholars in Mauritania to discuss combating violence and extremism. In Mauritania, the Grand Imam will meet the Mauritanian President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister and senior scholars and statesmen. This visit will witness signing a number of memorandums of understanding between Al-Azhar University and a number of scientific institutions in Mauritania.
