The event was attended by Dr. Ashraf Subhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mohammed Al-Harasawi, President of Al-Azhar University, Dr. Etienne Ahili, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Secretary General of the Union of African Universities, and a number of officials and dignitaries of Egypt and Africa.
The Olympics were held under the patronage of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar.
The Olympic Games, which included football, basketball, boys and girls, and athletics, continued from March 14 to 18, in an atmosphere of competitive competition that reflects the spirit of affection and brotherhood among the people of the continent.
This is part of a series of events and activities organized by Al-Azhar on the occasion of Egypt's assumption of the presidency of the African Union and the 2019 Declaration of the Year of Youth of Africa.
On Tuesday, Al-Azhar University inaugurated the regional headquarters of the Union of African Universities at Al-Azhar University, in the presence of a number of officials and Egyptian and African dignitaries.
"The inauguration of the headquarters of the Union of African Universities in Egypt is a historic event which comes within the framework of emphasizing the depth of Egyptian relations in all the countries of the continent and its openness to different cultures, civilizations and religions," he said.
In the same context, Al-Azhar University will host in July the International Conference on Higher Education in the African continent, which will be held every two years by the Federation of African Universities.
