Al-Azhar ceremony begins for the first African Youth University

The celebration of Al-Azhar University for the first African Youth University Olympiad started in cooperation with the Federation of African Universities in the gymnasium of the Armed Forces Sports Club in Al-Khalifa Al-Maamoun in Cairo.

The Olympic Games, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, are part of a series of events and activities organized by Al-Azhar on the occasion of Egypt's assumption of the presidency of the African Union and the 2019 Declaration "A Year for African Youth".

Al-Azhar University witnessed yesterday the opening of the regional headquarters of the Union of African Universities at Al-Azhar University, in the presence of a number of officials and dignitaries of Egypt and Africa. Ahmed al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, said that "the inauguration of the headquarters of the Union of African Universities in Egypt is a historic event, which comes in the context of emphasizing the depth of Egyptian relations in all countries of the continent and its openness to different cultures, civilizations and religions."

In July, Al-Azhar University will host the International Conference on Higher Education in the African continent, which will be held every two years by the Union of African Universities.
The Games are attended by 20 universities and 632 students from several African countries, including Uganda, Southern Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Comoros, Eritrea, Sudan, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Technica Conkry Sierra Leone, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Burundi, Gabon, Cameroon, Malawi, Zambia, Mauritania, Algeria,

The ceremony began with a presentation of the Olympic flag followed by a presentation to the students of the Police College and the media of the participating games, and a presentation of the flags of the participating countries, amid the enthusiasm of the students of Al-Azhar University and the foreign students participating in the ceremony.
